This is an open class which is suitable for those who have some experience of hand-building and basic throwing skills. The tutor will manage the diversity of experience through individual guidance and support.
For those who have no prior experience of working with clay, we recommend the Ceramics courses for Beginners.

What’s Covered on this Course?
Hand
building
Developing your hand-building skills to make constructions that are precise and well-refined. Use slips, sgraffito and carving methods to finish your work.
Throwing
Develop your basic throwing and turning skills - move on to making bowls, throwing “off-the-hump” and working with lids.
Glazing
Learn the fundamental components of the chemistry of glazing that generate a unique and beautiful glazed form.

Meet the Tutors
Alison Hannah
Alison is an experienced teacher working with young people for over 25 years. Her own work features stoneware functional ware decorated with her original landscape sketches.
Verran Townsend
Verran has taught in Devon pottery studios for a number of years. His own work features soothing and mindful films of his work perched in the outstandingly beautiful landscapes he visits.
